John Blair is known for his role as a founding father of the United States of America. He was a patriot and one of the best trained Jurists of the day. His colleagues really revered his ability to be gentle yet benevolent with matters, often being able to determine what was needed exactly from any legal question. He had served as Mayor in Williamsburg, Virginia for two years being 1751 and 1751. He then attended college at his Granduncle’s College of William and Mary where he earned an A.B. in 1754. He studied law at Middle Temple, London and was quick to return home to practice law. He eventually made his way to become the clerk of the Royal Governor’s Council.
Within the next several years, he had become part of the Virginia Constitution convention and served a number of duties during this time. He was part of the advisory group of Governor Patrick Henry. He was elected to judgeship in the general court and made it to chief justice. In 1789, on the date of September 24th, Blair was nominated by President George Washington to be within the Supreme Court of the United States in which the Senate confirmed by the US Senate on the 26th of the same month. He received his commission on the 30th of September and served in the position for the next 6 years. He then retired and passed away 5 years after at a healthy age for that time of 68 years old.
